| Description |
A lovely and rare example of an English West Country trading ketch, 'Bessie Ellen' has plied her trade since her launch in 1907! Completely restored over a two year period at the famous Ring-Andersen Yard in Denmark, 'Bessie Ellen' was relaunched in 2003, and has been operating as a sail-training and passenger charter vessel ever since. Originally designed for the Newfoundland cargo trade, her fine clipper bow and counter stern promises and delivers fine sailing performance, as has been demonstrated at several of the various Tall Ship and maritime festivals in Europe over the past several years. The ketch rig found much favor in the UK and Europe generally for cargo and fishing vessels of this size, as the crew requirements are much less than that of a square-rigged vessel or even a schooner, with no loss of sailing performance (rather better, actually!). 'Bessie Ellen' is currently certified in europe for 36 day passengers, or 12 passengers for world-wide charter service. The owners now having new plans ashore, 'Bessie Ellen' is offered for sale to new owners, who will continue the traditions and care commensurate with her long history. Please have a look at the photos and full specifications for more information!
