| Accommodations |
| (Layout diagram provided) Beginning forward is an anchor locker, aft of which is the forward stateroom. The forward stateroom is all done in Honduran mahogany, and consists of a single berth with storage under, opposite a single pullman above a settee. There is also an ensuite head (new in 2003), hanging locker, and doorway to the galley area aft. Aft of the forward stateroom is the full-width galley area, with cooking and washing up facilities to port, and the fridge/freezer, counter space, and extensive storage areas to starboard. One thing to note, the hot water system for both heads and galley is a propane-fired 'instant heat' system, which reduces water and power wastage considerably by providing immediate hot water when needed, but not until! Passing aft up the companionway is the salon (engine room beneath), which is entirely panelled in book-matched French walnut with teak trim. There is an 'L' shaped settee to port, with dining table and additional chairs, plus a small table to starboard. Entertainment systems are tastefully enclosed in French walnut cabinetry on the aft bulkhead, and there is a liquor locker on the starboard side. Moving aft down the aft companionway from the salon, we enter the midships stateroom. This area (and the aft stateroom as well) is panelled entirely in Canadian tiger-stripe maple with walnut trim, and features a large single berth on either side with storage beneath, and an ensuite head (new 2006) with shower. Continuing aft through the midships stateroom is the aft, or master stateroom. The master stateroom features a large athwartships double berth with storage below and bookshelves above, hanging locker, a settee, and an ensuite head (new 1996). Returning to the salon, there are four steps up to the covered helm position, which has a beautiful custom oak wheel. The hardtop above the helm position has a large Lexan fixed port, which allows the helmsman to observe the set of the mainsail. Aft of the helm postion is a large 'U' shaped settee of mahogany and teak, with a drop-leaf folding mahogany table. All interior carpeting replaced (2008). |

CONSTRUCTION NOTES: Honduras mahogany fitted seam planking over laminated white oak frames and keel. Most of the frames have subsequently been re-glued, strapped and through-bolted. The boat was hauled and the bottom serviced 10/06 as part of annual maintenance (see photo).
HISTORY: Originally named 'Navarana,' 'Ibis' was built by Walsted in 1962 for Svend Illum of Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1978 the boat was sold to a German gentleman, living in Washington DC. He sailed the boat across the Atlantic to her new home in the Chesapeake Bay and always had a professional skipper and wife aboard, thus ensuring maintenance was kept to a high standard. In 1980 they were motorsailing in a heavy fog off Nantucket, when the boat collided with a 107' scallop dredger and lost 10' of the bow, as well as her mast. The owner decided to have her fully restored by Falmouth Marine Boatyard (now MacDougal's Falmouth Marine), but now with a one foot longer bow (designed by Alden Yachts) and with a Hood stoway-mast for shorthanded sailing. The restoration took over eight months and the boat was relaunched in 1982 with everything like brand new. Subsequently they cruised in the Caribbean and along the New England coast until about 1989, when the owner got tired of sailing and stored the boat in a covered slip with her mast out. The current owners purchased the boat in 1995 and renamed her 'Ibis'. They completely refurbished her, updating many of the systems aboard, and set sail in 1996 for the Caribbean, where they have successfully cruised and chartered for the past 10 years under the Dutch flag. |
